The pathology service in Cwm Taf University Health Board has introduced an innovative treatment for people with hypercholesterolaemia (people with a high cholesterol and at risk of heart disease).
The health board’s pathology department is the FIRST in Wales, SECOND in the UK and THIRD in the World to attain accreditation to ISO 15189:2012.
Is it the work you see in television programmes like Silent Witness and CSI? Are they mad scientists working alone in a lab? Well, you’re not alone if that’s what you think. A recent survey found Forensic Pathology (the investigation of death) is the public’s most common perception of the role of pathologists. In truth, forensic pathologists make up less than 1% of pathologists across the UK. Less than a third of those surveyed were aware that pathologists diagnose diseases in the living.
Cwm Taf University Health Board’s Pathology Directorate has become only the third in the world to receive its kite mark of quality in all five of its main disciplines.
